Solar cells and batteries/supercapacitors require suitable architectures for their integration. Electrochemical balancing between conversion and storage units must be achieved. Nanostructured materials can make common electrodes work for both electrochemical reactions. A special focus on the most sustainable integrated energy devices is given.
This paper proposes a solar PV system integrated battery energy storage to supply standalone residential DC nanogrid using single-stage hybrid converter. A BDHC is used as single-stage hybrid converter for simultaneous AC and DC outputs. A separate boost DC–DC converter is used to operate the solar PV with maximum efficiency.
This work focuses on grid-connected residential PV-battery storage systems, operated with the purpose of maximizing energy self-consumption.
Yuan et al. fabricated a device for PV energy production and storage based on the use of a hybrid SC/BAT with 3D hierarchical NiCo 2 O 4 array and AC as Faradic and capacitive electrodes, respectively .
Yuan et al. devised a control strategy for integrating PV systems with SCs and BATs, extending their service life . Using MATLAB and Simulink, a hybrid storage system was implemented, combining the advantages of the two storage elements mentioned above.
In respect of economic performance, PV-battery storage systems in the Chinese residential sector are not economically viable in the current context of low electricity tariffs and considerable PV generation incentives which do not take into account storage.
