Currently, the term battery-supercapacitor associated with hybrid energy storage systems (HESS) for electric vehicles is significantly concentrated towards energy usage and applications of energy shortages and the degradation of the environment.
The proper focus on hybridizing the battery energy system with the appropriate support from the supercapacitor storage system will help lead the way towards overall ESS for possessing high energy density and a robust set of flexibility within the operations .
Researchers from North-West University and Queen’s University Belfast proposed the design of hybrid energy storage systems by combining supercapacitors (SCs) and lithium-ion capacitors (LiCs), i.e., hybrid capacitors (HCs), with a battery through a multiple input converter for electric vehicles.
Supercapacitor-battery hybrid (SBH) energy storage devices, having excellent electrochemical properties, safety, economically viability, and environmental soundness, have been a research hotspot in the current world of science and technology.
