The comparison results show that the prepared superhydrophobic thin film not only has anti-reflection and self-cleaning ability to improve the transmittance and output power of the PV modules, but also has excellent weatherability by forming stable covalent bonds through dehydration reactions. 1. Introduction
For photovoltaic (PV) modules, dust accumulation is one of the reasons for the reduction of output power, while conventional cleaning is expensive and inefficient for large scale PV power plants. Therefore, the research of superhydrophobic self-cleaning thin film on PV modules is proposed in this paper.
The superhydrophobic coatings are widely used in solar photovoltaic panels owing to their excellent nonadhesive properties. These coatings prevent the dust from penetrating into the surface with their micro-/nano-hierarchical structures as observed in the lotus leaves.
The prolonged functioning of antireflective superhydrophobic self-cleaning properties of solar panels for realistic applications lies in the durability of the coatings.
The irregular nano-convexity structure of superhydrophobic film gives the module excellent self-cleaning performance. Figs. 13 and 14 show the I-V and P-V curves of samples respectively.
The goal of this study is to develop a durable and multifunctional coating with superhydrophobicity, high light transmittance and strong infrared radiation, which is applied to the surface of photovoltaic glass to reduce dust deposition and lower the module temperature.
