The emerging perovskite solar cell (PSC) technology has attracted significant attention due to its superior power conversion efficiency (PCE) among the thin-film photovoltaic technologies. However, the toxicity of lead and poor stability of lead halide materials hinder their commercialization.
As discussed earlier, SnF 2 was reported to increase the solar cell efficiency of Sn-based halide perovskite by minimizing the excessive p-type doping produced by the oxidation of tin from Sn 2+ to Sn 4+ which is a major challenge corresponding to the stability of tin-based perovskites . Table 1.
A relatively higher efficiency of up to 1.12% was obtained by solar cells prepared using sequential deposition else ways. Min-Cherl Jung et al. confirmed that the rapid formation of Sn–Br oxide during fabrication and the high resistance of MASnBr 3 PSCs are responsible for its low efficiency .
Conclusions and future perspectives In short, for the commercial application of PSCs, the main bottlenecks rest with two aspects: (a) large-area PSM's high efficiency; (b) competitive long-term stability.
The VOC of the fabricated solar cells is ≈1.0 V, which is a rather low value for a material that absorbs at energies > 2.3 eV and shows a PL peaking between 610 and 630 nm (≈2 eV). Therefore, we expect high non-radiative recombination losses, as already stated in ref. .
