An Automatic Solar Tracker System is a game changer for increasing the efficiency of solar panels. This project digs into the development of an Arduino-based solar tracker system that detects sunlight using Light Dependent Resistors (LDR) and changes the position of the solar panel using a servo motor.
The circuit diagram that is included gives us an understanding of the hardware arrangement that serves as the foundation for our Automatic Solar Tracker System. A 3-watt, 5-volt solar panel serves as the main energy source for the system.
Fig. 1 shows the circuit of the solar tracking system. The solar tracker comprises comparator IC LM339, H-bridge motor driver IC L293D (IC2) and a few discrete components. Light-dependent resistors LDR1 through LDR4 are used as sensors to detect the panel’s position relative to the sun.
The main components in the solar tracking system are standard photovoltaic solar panels (PV), a deep cycle rechargeable battery, a battery charger, a servo motor, a light-dependent resistor, and an "Arduino Uno" microcontroller. The solar tracker uses light-dependent resistors as its sensors.
