An excessive resistance of your high amperage circuit is an overlooked problem that can cause your volts to drop in your batteries. Check to see if the cables are corroded, damaged, or loose. Resistance is usually caused by battery terminals and cables that have not been properly cleaned. Corroded cables or terminals could be a big problem.
Such faults can cause a significant drop in battery voltage. However, as the degree of short circuit decreases (e.g. initial internal short circuit), the battery voltage cannot be clearly differentiated. The internal short circuit will continue to evolve, eventually causing a severe short circuit and thermal runaway.
A faulty cell can deviate from other cells due to short-circuit current, causing severe inconsistency. Ouyang et al. identified the cell consistency of open circuit voltage and internal resistance, and Zheng et al. obtained the cell consistency of capacity in a serial battery pack, which were used for ISC fault diagnosis.
The first of them is the contribution of voltage drop from internal resistance when the pack is under load. i.e. does the damage begin whenever a current (e.g. from a punchout) dips the pack's voltage, as observed from its terminals, below 3.0V/cell, or does the pack's "actual", resting voltage with no current drawn have to get that low?
However, due to the equalization mechanism of the battery pack and other factors, the voltage drop in the cell did not produce a large fluctuation after the occurrence in the microshort circuit but showed a similar trend in other normal cells.
The battery uses voltage as the cut-off condition during use, and the crucial factors that affect its available energy are capacity and internal resistance. In addition, the charging process of the battery pack is limited by the maximum cell voltage, and the SOC factor needs to be considered.
